Srinagar, Feb 01 (GNS): Union government has proposed an allocation of ₹43,290.29 crore for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in the Union Budget for 2026-27, an increase of nearly ₹2,000 crore compared to the current financial year, budget documents show.

The proposed outlay forms part of the Centre’s continued financial support to Jammu and Kashmir to meet expenditure requirements and address its resource gap, ahead of UT’s own budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

For the ongoing financial year, total assistance to Jammu and Kashmir, as per GNS, has been revised to ₹41,340 crore, against the original estimate of ₹41,000.07 crore, indicating an upward revision of ₹340 crore.

In the Budget Estimates for 2026-27, central assistance of ₹42,650 crore has been provided to cover the resource deficit of the Union Territory. The proposal also includes ₹279 crore as grants for the Union Territory Disaster Response Fund.

Additionally, ₹259 crore has been allocated as equity support for the Jhelum-Tawi Flood Recovery Project, while ₹101 crore has been set aside to support capital expenditure in Jammu and Kashmir. (GNS)
