Says BJP of fueling ‘Jammu and Kashmir’s Divide’

Jammu, Feb 3: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Tuesday witnessed a brief ruckus after Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary accused the BJP of indulging in divisive “Jammu versus Kashmir” politics, asserting that the government views the Union Territory as one indivisible entity.

Speaking during the proceedings, Surinder Choudhary, as per news agency Kashmir News Corner (KNC), said, “For this government, Jammu and Kashmir is one. We will never divide it. If Jammu has a problem, the government has a problem. If Kashmir has a problem, the government has a problem.”

He said attempts are being made to project Jammu and Kashmir as separate political identities. “When we talk about J&K, we talk about the entire J&K. But some people don’t listen and try to create a narrative that Kashmir has nothing to do with Jammu and vice versa. We don’t believe in that thinking,” he said.

Accusing the BJP of politicising regional issues, the Deputy Chief Minister said, “You have one view for Jammu and another for Kashmir. This kind of politics is harmful. J&K is the pride of this country and all of us have a collective responsibility towards it.”

His remarks led to loud protests from BJP members, resulting in a brief disruption of proceedings before the Speaker intervened to restore order.

Choudhary maintained that the government remains committed to balanced development and safeguarding the interests of all regions. “The money we are spending is the money of the state. We are answerable to the people of Jammu and Kashmir as a whole,” he added. (KNC)
