April 16: Continuing its sustained drive against illegal mining, Police have seized 14 vehicles involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in various parts of valley.

In Awantipora, Acting on information regarding illegal extraction and transportation of minerals at Lethpora along the river Jhelum, a police team of Police Station Awantipora, apprehended the persons involved in the unlawful activity. All the accused persons were arrested on the spot. One vehicle (tipper) and a motor used in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals were seized.

In Shopian, during routine patrolling, a police party from Police Station Zainapora seized one JCB found engaged in illegal mining activities without the requisite permissions. In a similar action, a police party from Police Station Heerpora seized one platform (jungle truck) involved in the illegal transportation of mining materials without mandatory permissions. Additionally, Police Post Sadipora seized one tractor engaged in similar activities. Similarly, a police party from Police Station Keller seized one tractor found involved in illegal mining without the required permissions.

In Anantnag, during the intervening night, a police party from Police Station Dooru intercepted and seized one JCB and five tractors engaged in illegal mining activities. The vehicles have been taken into custody. In another operation, Police Post Dialgam, conducted a raid at Brinty Nalla Dialgam and seized one JCB and two tractors involved in illegal extraction of minerals. The seized vehicles have been taken into custody.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations, and investigations have been initiated.

Police have reiterated their commitment to take strict action against illegal mining activities and urged the general public to cooperate in curbing such offences.
