Anantnag, May 06: In a significant move aimed at strengthening surveillance on narcotics offenders, Anantnag Police on Tuesday installed a GPS-enabled tracking anklet on an accused involved in an NDPS case who was recently granted bail by a court.

Officials said the GPS tracking device was affixed to monitor the movements of the accused, identified as Fayaz Ahmad Dar, son of Gh Mohi Ud Din Dar, a resident of Zaldoora Dooru, in compliance with directions issued by the court.

Police said the accused is involved in FIR No. 56/2026 registered under Section 8/18 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Dooru. The installation of the GPS-enabled anklet was made a mandatory condition for granting bail to ensure strict adherence to the terms laid down by the court.

A police spokesperson said the wearable electronic device enables real-time tracking of the accused’s location and helps authorities monitor compliance with bail conditions while preventing possible involvement in further narcotics-related activities.

The spokesperson added that the initiative reflects Anantnag Police’s increasing use of modern technology in tackling drug trafficking and substance abuse. Police said such measures will strengthen accountability and improve monitoring of habitual narcotics offenders while ensuring effective implementation of the law.(KNC)
