Anantnag, July 3: An 80-year-old man from Akingam village in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district was allegedly robbed by a group of unidentified men after accepting a lift from them, prompting Islamic scholar Maqbool Akrani to seek immediate police action against those responsible.
Addressing a congregation during Friday prayers, Akrani alleged that the octogenarian had travelled to Anantnag town last week to offer Friday prayers. While returning home from the Janglat Mandi area, he was reportedly offered a lift by a group of unknown men, who assured him that they would drop him at Akingam.
However, instead of taking him to his destination, the men allegedly drove him to a secluded place where they stripped him of his clothes, snatched his cash and other belongings, and abandoned him before fleeing from the spot.
Describing the incident as shocking and deeply disturbing, Akrani appealed to the police and the district administration to identify the accused and bring them to justice at the earliest.
He also urged the public, particularly elderly citizens, to exercise caution and avoid accepting lifts from unknown persons. [KNT]
