Budgam, July 21 (GNS): A tense situation unfolded in Beerwah town of central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Tuesday after floodwaters entered the area around the main bus stand and washed away the Municipal Shopping Complex.

Officials told GNS that the sudden rise in water level caught traders off guard, with several shops submerged. Shopkeepers were seen making frantic efforts to shift goods and valuables to safer locations as the floodwaters continued to swell.

The surge also caused extensive damage to embankments in the area, raising concerns of further erosion and additional flooding if rainfall continues.

Authorities said the situation is being closely monitored. Local residents and traders have urged the administration to immediately strengthen flood protection infrastructure and provide urgent relief to those affected. (GNS)
