August 24: Continuing its sustained crackdown on illegal mining, Police in Shopian seized five tractors and two tippers involved in the unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals from Keegam and Shopian areas of the district.
During routine patrolling, a police party from Police Post Keegam intercepted and seized five tractors found engaged in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals without royalty documents. In this regard, FIR No. 172/2026 under relevant provisions of law was registered at Police Station Shopian and investigation has been initiated.
In a similar action Police party from Police Station Shopian intercepted and seized two tippers involved in illegal mining activities without mandatory permissions. In this regard FIR No.173/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Shopian and investigation has been initiated.
Police reiterated its firm commitment to protecting the districts natural resources and taking strict legal action against individuals involved in illegal mining activities. The general public has been urged to cooperate with the police and report any such unlawful activities. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
