Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Resigns

Srinagar, Jul 25: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Saturday announced the end of its nationwide protest movement after Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned, marking a dramatic conclusion to weeks of demonstrations over alleged examination paper leaks and demands for accountability in the education system.

The protest, which began over allegations of irregularities in major entrance examinations, evolved into one of the country’s largest youth-led agitations in recent years. Thousands of students and supporters gathered at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar and in several cities across India, demanding the resignation of the Education Minister, systemic reforms in the examination process, and greater government accountability.

CJP leaders declared the movement a success following Pradhan’s resignation and appealed to protesters across the country to disperse peacefully. The announcement came shortly after the Centre accepted key demands of the movement, including a commitment to pursue reforms in the examination system, provide compensation to families affected by exam-related tragedies, and refrain from initiating legal action against protesters.

Activist Sonam Wangchuk, who had ended his 26-day hunger strike a day earlier after receiving written assurances from the government, described the resignation as a victory for peaceful and democratic protest. He had said his decision to end the fast was also driven by concerns over the safety of demonstrators and the possibility of violence.

The agitation had witnessed massive rallies, police action, disruptions in Parliament, and widespread political debate, emerging as one of the most significant public protest movements in recent years. Opposition parties welcomed the minister’s resignation as a step towards accountability, while the government reiterated its commitment to strengthening the integrity of the examination system.

However, there were conflicting statements from within the movement. While the CJP officially announced the conclusion of the protest after the minister’s resignation, some leaders later indicated that they would continue pressing for the complete implementation of all promised reforms and other pending demands.
