Accused Allegedly Demanded ₹15 Lakh Bribe, Later Agreed to Accept ₹10 Lakh for Expediting Contract Renewal File

NEW DELHI, AUGUST 19: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended a Deputy Controller of Accounts, working as Internal Financial Advisor (IFA) in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), New Delhi, in connection with a bribery case.

According to a CBI press release, the agency registered the case on August 18, 2026, on the basis of a complaint alleging that the accused public servant, an ICAS-2020 officer, had demanded an undue advantage of ₹15 lakh from the complainant for expediting the processing of a file.

The complaint related to the renewal of a contract for a private company, which was pending before the accused. During negotiations, the accused allegedly agreed to accept ₹10 lakh as bribe for expediting the renewal file.

The CBI subsequently laid a trap on August 18 and caught the accused public servant while allegedly accepting the ₹10 lakh bribe through his wife.

The accused has been apprehended by the investigating agency, and further investigation is underway, the CBI said.

The agency reiterated its commitment to taking strict action against corrupt public servants and urged citizens who encounter corruption or demands for bribes by public officials to report such matters to the CBI.

The case remains under investigation, and further details are awaited.(KNC)
