Budgam, Aug 26: Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Beerwah has started laparoscopic surgical procedures, with two laparoscopic cholecystectomies successfully performed at the hospital on Wednesday.
The procedures were conducted as token cases by the hospital’s surgical and anaesthesia teams, marking the beginning of laparoscopic surgery services at the health facility.
The surgical team comprised Dr Intikhab Alam, Dr Irshad Lone, Medical Officer Surgeon, Showkat Gul, Imtiyaz Reshi and Neelofar Jan, while the anaesthesia team was led by Consultant Anaesthesia Dr Arif Vakil, assisted by Dr Gul Mohammad and Shameem Aga.
The availability of laparoscopic surgery at SDH Beerwah is expected to provide patients in the area access to minimally invasive surgical procedures closer to home, reducing the need to travel to distant tertiary-care centres for such treatment.
The commencement of the service also expands the range of surgical procedures available at the hospital and strengthens its capacity to provide specialised care locally.
The hospital administration said the development was made possible through the coordinated efforts of the surgical, anaesthesia, nursing, technical and other healthcare staff. [KNT]
