Kishtwar, Aug 28 (GNS): Police have arrested a nurse posted at District Hospital Kishtwar in connection with the death of a minor girl from Chatroo area of Kishtwar district, taking the total number of arrests in the case to six.
Officials told GNS that the accused has been identified as Sonika, a nurse at DH Kishtwar. She has been arrested in FIR No. 34/2026 registered at Police Station Chatroo under relevant sections of POCSO Act, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Police said that considering the gravity and sensitivity of the case, SSP Kishtwar had constituted a Special Investigation Team. During probe, material surfaced about alleged sexual exploitation of the minor, her pregnancy and attempts to terminate it, besides involvement of multiple persons including those linked to her medical treatment.
Five accused were already arrested in the case and the role of the nurse surfaced during further investigation, leading to her arrest as sixth accused.
SIT is carrying out a thorough, scientific and evidence-based investigation into the circumstances leading to the minor’s death and role of every person connected with the case, police said, adding further arrests will be made wherever warranted and strict legal action will be taken as per law.(GNS)
