Srinagar, Sep 25: The Jammu and Kashmir government has acknowledged shortages of medical and paramedical staff in certain healthcare institutions across the Union Territory, while informing the Legislative Assembly that health services were functioning without adverse impact on patient care.
In a written reply to a starred question, the Health and Medical Education Department said staffing gaps varied from institution to institution depending on sanctioned strength and functional requirements.
The government said the manpower position was being continuously monitored and available human resources were being utilized optimally.
It said vacancies were being addressed through recruitment and other permissible arrangements, while staff under the National Health Mission was being deployed or engaged wherever permissible to supplement existing manpower.
The government also said healthcare services at SKIMS were functioning smoothly despite vacancies among doctors, nurses and allied staff.
It said vacancies in various medical and paramedical categories were proposed to be filled on priority, subject to the availability of selection panels and recommendations from competent recruiting agencies. [KNT]
