Srinagar, October 1(GNS): Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Crime Branch Kashmir, has filed a chargesheet in a case related to fake official letter using forged signatures of LG.
In a handout to GNS, the CBK said that chargesheet has been filed in case FIR No. 29/2026 under Sections 204, 319(2), 336(2) and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) before Court of Sub-Judge, Srinagar against accused Saqlain Mushtaq Dar, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, resident of Deeri, Pulwama.
The case relates to a forged communication purportedly addressed to Senior Superintendent of Police, Anantnag, in which sender falsely impersonated Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, UT of Jammu & Kashmir. The communication was prepared using counterfeit official letterhead and forged signature and was intended to unlawfully influence functioning of Anantnag District Police Administration.
During course of investigation, allegations and evidence collected were found to substantiate commission of offences under relevant provisions of BNS. Accordingly, investigation has been concluded as “Proved” and chargesheet has been presented before court for judicial determination.
The EOW has advised general public to remain vigilant against attempts involving impersonation of public authorities, fabrication and use of forged letters, documents, official letterheads and signatures. Public has been urged to verify authenticity of any suspicious communication purportedly issued by government authorities or public officials and to immediately report any such instance to Economic Offences Wing.
