Jammu, Oct 11 (GNS): A woman was swept away in a flash flood triggered by heavy overnight rain in Raipur Domana area of Jammu district on Sunday morning, while her husband had a narrow escape.
Eyewitnesses told GNS that the couple had come out after sudden rise of water behind their house. As per the husband’s statement, water came with force from behind and his car bearing registration number JK11 1546 started shaking. When he went to move the car to a safer side, the gushing water submerged the vehicle before he could get inside.
His wife, who came behind him to call him back and save him, was caught in the strong current. Both were swept away by the flash flood. While the man managed to cling to the side and survive, his wife was washed away downstream and is still missing.
Locals said heavy rain since early morning led to cloudburst-like situation in the area, causing a sudden flood in the local nallah.
Soon after the incident, locals launched a search operation with ropes in the muddy stream. Police and SDRF teams also reached the spot and started a rescue operation to trace the missing woman.
