Srinagar, October 11, 2026: Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Shri Ramdas Athawale highlighted various welfare schemes of the Union Government during a press conference in Srinagar today.
Shri Athawale spoke about initiatives under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and said the Ministry was ready to consider proposals from the UT Government concerning old-age homes and other support facilities through the appropriate channels.
The Minister also emphasised the implementation of provisions for persons with disabilities, including reservation in education and government employment. Referring to the Sugamya Bharat Abhiyaan, he stressed the need to improve accessibility in public buildings and facilities so that persons with disabilities can access services and public spaces independently.
Shri Athawale highlighted progress and achievements related to financial inclusion, self-employment, housing, healthcare, access to clean cooking fuel and support for vulnerable sections of society.
Referring to the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, the Minister spoke about efforts to expand access to banking services. He also highlighted the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, which provides collateral-free loans to eligible beneficiaries for small businesses and self-employment.
The Minister also referred to the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural and Urban), Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and UJALA Yojana, which cover access to clean cooking fuel, housing, healthcare and energy efficient lighting.
Shri Athawale also highlighted the importance of skill development, entrepreneurship and support for micro, small and medium enterprises in expanding livelihood opportunities.
The Minister reiterated the importance of ensuring that welfare schemes reach eligible beneficiaries and that concerned officials should facilitate their effective implementation.(PIB)
