Srinagar, Oct 11: The Department of Students’ Welfare, University of Kashmir (KU) organised an Awareness Rally-cum-Para Sports and Inclusive Conclave under the theme “Breaking Barriers, Building Inclusion” at Main Campus on Sunday.
The event was organised through the Department’s Special Cell in collaboration with the Humanity Welfare Organisation Helpline ( HWOH) and the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), as part of World Investor Week -2026.
The event focused on financial inclusion and investment awareness for persons with disabilities, including access to financial services. It aimed to promote awareness of available services and encourage the full participation of persons with disabilities in financial and community life.
The rally started at Maulana Rumi Gate and culminated at Ibn-e-Khaldun Auditorium.
While flagging off the rally, Vice-Chancellor KU Prof. Nilofer Khan said, “Our University has ensured inclusivity in every part of campus life. Students with disabilities enrolled at various departments of the varsity are not charged examination or hostel fees.”
During her interaction with the participants, Prof. Khan encouraged them to explore opportunities and schemes available through the Department of Social Welfare, Govt of J&K including skill-development initiatives that can support greater self-reliance.
Speaking on the occasion Dean Students’ Welfare KU Prof. Seema Singh said the programme brought together awareness, participation and sports to promote inclusion and highlight the importance of access to financial services for persons with disabilities.
Padma Shri awardee and disability rights activist Javed Ahmad Tak welcomed the participants and spoke about the importance of inclusion, equal opportunity and empowerment of persons with disabilities.
SEBI Deputy General Manager Rahul Kelapuri, Mumbai, and Bilal Ahmad Hakeem, resource person, SEBI India, Jammu and Kashmir, spoke about financial awareness and the importance of accessible financial services, investment information, schemes and policies for persons with disabilities.
Shaheel Mohammad, Coordinator, Special Cell, Department of Students’ Welfare KU coordinated the programme.
The day’s activities included the awareness rally, interactive sessions on financial awareness and a friendly cricket match involving visually impaired participants and wheelchair users.
