SRINAGAR, MAY 21: Special market checking squads of Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Kashmir today conducted inspection of various markets in Srinagar ahead of Eid festival to keep a check on hoarding, profiteering and black marketing. On the directions of Director FCS&CA Kashmir enforcement teams of the department headed by Assistant Director Supplies and Srinagar North/ South conducted extensive drive of market checking across Srinagar in wee hours of the morning keeping in view of the upcoming holy festival of Eid-ul-Fitr. The teams visited various areas which include Sanat Nagar, Rawalpora Chanapora, Baghi Mehtab, Barzulla, Mehjoor Nagar, Batamaloo, Baghi-Nund Singh Chattabal, Palayarbal, Bota Kadal, Nowshera and Buchpora to curb the unwarranted practice of hoarding and profiteering especially in respect of mutton and poultry items. During the checking it was found that various butchers and poultry dealers were selling mutton and broiler birds on exorbitant rates. Acting tough on such defaulters the squad seized a poultry vehicle at Iqbal Sabzi Mandi, Baghi- Nund Singh Chattabal and subsequently the sale of seized stock was conducted at government notified rates among the general public. Besides, a fine of Rs 9200 also recovered from the defaulters who were found guilty of violating the government notified rates. Meanwhile, Director FCS&CA has appealed people to purchase Eid essentials on government approved rates and if they find anyone indulging in overcharging may be reported to his office for immediate necessary action.
