Repeat Offender Detained Under PIT NDPS Act; Police Intensifies Crackdown on Assets Linked to Narcotics Trade
Anantnag, July 16: Continuing its sustained campaign against drug trafficking and the illegal wealth generated through the narcotics trade, Anantnag Police on Wednesday attached a residential property valued at around ₹25 lakh under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
According to police, the attached property is a single-storey residential house located in Bijbehara and belongs to Aurangzeb Bhat alias Javaid Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Arwani, Bijbehara. During the course of investigation, the property was found to have been acquired through proceeds allegedly generated from illicit drug trafficking.
Police said the accused is a habitual offender with a history of involvement in multiple NDPS cases, including FIR No. 64/2013 registered under Sections 8/15 of the NDPS Act and FIR No. 75/2025 registered under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act, both at Police Station Bijbehara.
In view of his repeated involvement in narcotics-related offences, the accused has also been detained under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act and is presently lodged in Central Jail, Kot Bhalwal, Jammu, police said.
Anantnag Police reiterated its commitment to dismantling the financial networks of drug traffickers and urged citizens to actively support the anti-drug campaign by reporting information related to narcotics trafficking to the nearest police station. Police assured that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.(KNC)
