Says Centre’s Priority Is Ensuring Lasting Peace and Stability Across Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, June 17 : Leader of Opposition (LoP) Sunil Sharma on Wednesday reiterated that the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir remains a firm commitment of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), but emphasized that the timing of its implementation will depend on the prevailing security situation in the Union Territory.

Speaking on the issue, Sharma said that the Central Government is committed to fulfilling its promise regarding the restoration of statehood. However, he maintained that the foremost priority of the Centre is to ensure lasting peace, stability, and security in Jammu and Kashmir.

He stated that the government wants to create an environment where violence, terrorism, and public disorder become a thing of the past, adding that sustainable peace is essential for the region’s long-term development and progress.

The BJP leader said significant improvements have been witnessed in the security scenario over the past few years, and efforts are continuing to further strengthen peace and normalcy across Jammu and Kashmir.

Sharma asserted that once the security situation is deemed fully conducive, appropriate steps regarding the restoration of statehood will be taken in accordance with the commitments already made by the Central Government.

He further stressed that the welfare of the people, economic growth, and a peaceful atmosphere remain the government’s key priorities, adding that all decisions concerning Jammu and Kashmir will be taken keeping in view the interests of its residents and the overall stability of the region.

The remarks come amid continuing political discussions and demands from various parties seeking the early restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. (KNC)
