Srinagar, July 24: A non-local man from West Bengal was found dead under unexplained circumstances in the Khonmoh area on the outskirts of Srinagar on Friday, prompting police to initiate an investigation.
Officials said a police party from Police Post Khonmoh shifted the body to SMHS Hospital, Srinagar, for radiological examination after the man was declared brought dead at the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Khonmoh.
The deceased has been identified as Shib Kumar (37), son of Itwa Badiya, a resident of Garopada in Alipur district of West Bengal.
According to the preliminary information available with police, Shib Kumar was found unconscious at Sulaiman Pop Factory in Khonmoh by his associates, who rushed him to PHC Khonmoh, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Police have initiated inquest proceedings to ascertain the cause and circumstances of the death. The body has been sent for medico-legal formalities, including radiological examination, while further investigation is underway. [KNT]
