Accused Allegedly Demanded ₹20,000 Per Worker for Contractual Housekeeping Recruitment; Sent to Judicial Custody Till August 13

New Delhi/Ayodhya, Aug 2: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an Assistant Sanitary Inspector of the Cantonment Board, Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, in connection with a bribery case involving the alleged demand and acceptance of illegal gratification for the recruitment of contractual housekeeping workers.

According to a CBI press release, the agency registered the case on July 30, 2026, following a complaint alleging that the accused had demanded a bribe of ₹20,000 per worker for facilitating the recruitment of contractual housekeeping staff in the Cantonment Board.

The complainant alleged that when he approached the Assistant Sanitary Inspector on July 28 regarding the recruitment of workers known to him, the official not only demanded the bribe but also directed him to bring at least 20 workers along with their documents by the evening of July 30. The accused allegedly threatened that the workers would not be hired if the demanded amount was not paid.

Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap on July 30 and caught the accused red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹60,000, which was allegedly the negotiated amount at the rate of ₹12,000 per worker for five workers.

The accused was arrested on July 30 and produced before the Competent Court in Lucknow on July 31. The court remanded him to judicial custody till August 13, 2026.

The CBI said that further investigation into the case is underway.(KNC)
