Assistant Engineer Accused of Misusing Official Position to Favour Contractor; CBI Conducts Searches, Seizes Cash and Incriminating Documents
New Delhi, July 28: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Public Works Department (PWD) Assistant Engineer (AE), New Delhi, along with two private individuals—a representative of M/s Kaura Construction Company, Rohini, and an employee of the same firm—in connection with a major bribery case.
According to the CBI, the case was registered on July 27, 2026, following allegations that the Assistant Engineer abused his official position by extending undue favours to a government contractor representing M/s Kaura Construction Company during the execution of various construction works entrusted by the Public Works Department, New Delhi.
The investigation revealed that, in return for granting illegal favours and undue advantages to the contractor, the accused Assistant Engineer allegedly demanded and accepted illegal gratification through the contractor’s representative and employee as part of a criminal conspiracy.
CBI officials stated that on July 27, the contractor’s representative instructed his employee to deliver ₹21 lakh as a bribe to the Assistant Engineer at his residence in Pitampura, New Delhi.
Acting on the information, the CBI conducted a trap operation and arrested the accused after recovering the ₹21 lakh cash allegedly delivered as illegal gratification.
During subsequent searches at the residence of the Assistant Engineer, the CBI recovered ₹15.50 lakh in additional cash along with several incriminating documents.
Searches were also carried out at the residential premises of the representative of M/s Kaura Construction Company, where the agency recovered incriminating documents and ₹46.75 lakh in cash.
The CBI said that further investigation into the bribery case is currently underway to ascertain the full extent of the alleged corruption and identify any additional persons involved.(KNC)
