NEW DELHI, AUGUST 20: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has detected unaccounted cash amounting to ₹68.53 lakh from two passengers at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, officials said.
The detection was made by CISF personnel deployed at the Random X-BIS, ASG Delhi, following behavioural observation and subsequent analysis of CCTV footage.
According to officials, CISF personnel initially noticed the suspicious behaviour of one passenger and identified him for detailed screening. During the examination of CCTV footage, another passenger accompanying the individual was also identified for further scrutiny.
Both passengers were travelling to Guwahati and onward to Agartala.
During a detailed screening of their baggage, CISF personnel recovered a total of ₹68,53,500 in cash from the two passengers. The passengers were unable to satisfactorily account for the large amount of cash, following which the matter was referred to the concerned authorities.
The two passengers, along with the recovered cash, baggage and relevant travel documents, were subsequently handed over to Income Tax officials for further investigation and necessary legal action.
The detection highlights the alertness, vigilance and behavioural observation capabilities of CISF personnel deployed at the airport. The incident also underlines the importance of continuous surveillance and security checks at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, one of the country’s busiest aviation hubs.
Further action in the matter will be taken by the Income Tax authorities in accordance with the applicable rules and procedures.(KNC)
