Crackdown on Drugs: 8 Peddlers Nabbed in South, Central Kashmir; Contraband, ₹10,450 Seized

April 19: Continuing its sustained crackdown against drug trafficking, Police have arrested seven drug peddlers in Anantnag, Budgam & Awantipora and seized significant quantity of contraband substances along with cash ₹10,450 in three separate operations.

A Police team of PS Anantnag at Danter, four drug peddlers have been arrested.  They have been identified as Shabir Qayoom son of Abdul Qayoom Deva resident of Cheeni Chowk Anantnag,  Zahid Manzoor son of Manzoor Ahmed Mir resident of Hassnpora Bagh A/P Kha Bazar Anantnag, Faizan Lone son of Nazir Ahamed Lone resident of Mir-Danter Anantnag. One accused, Gowher Reshi resident of Danter, managed to flee. During search, 3.178 kgs of Ganja powder-like substance and cash ₹10,450 were recovered from their possession.

A Police party of PP Sangam, during naka checking at Marhama Crossing intercepted Swift vehicle bearing registration number JK04J-5556 with two person on board. They have been identified as Mohammad Tufail Hajam son of Abdul Salaam Hajam and Mushtaq Ahmad Khanday son of Mohammad Sidiq Khanday, both resident of Badipora Chadoora. During search, 3.29 grams of brown sugar-like substance and 7.88 grams of charas-like substance were recovered.

Similarly, a police team of PS Bijbehara, during naka checking at Doodhnad Waghama, arrested a drug peddler identified as Javaid Ahmad Mantoo son of Wali Mohammad Mantoo resident of Waghama Bijbehara. During search, 468 grams of charas powder was recovered from his possession.

In Budgam, Police apprehended a drug peddler in the Chadoora area. The operation was carried out by the police party of Police Station Chadoora near Degree College Chadoora. The drug peddler has been identified as Mohammad Sahil Sheikh son of Mohammad Himat Sheikh resident of Kolkata, Murshidabad, presently residing at Chadoora. During search, approximately 4.96 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession.

Meanwhile in Awantipora, Police party of Police Station Tral apprehended a drug peddler identified as Ashiq Hussain Bhat son of Gh. Mohammad Bhat, resident of Ratsuna Tral. During search, 50 grams of charas and 125 grams of charas powder like substance were recovered from his possession.

Regarding the incidents, cases have been registered and investigations have been initiated.

J&K Police reiterate its zero-tolerance policy towards drug menace. Stringent action against peddlers and smugglers will continue to safeguard the youth and society. General public is requested to cooperate with police and share information regarding drug peddling in their areas.
