Accused sentenced to 3 years rigorous imprisonment for using forged 10+2 certificate to join IRP

Srinagar, July 29(GNS): The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir, formerly Crime Branch Kashmir, has secured the conviction of a man for fraudulently securing a job in the police by using a fake qualification certificate.

In a handout to GNS, the CBK said that a court in Srinagar convicted Nazir Ahmad Malik, son of Abdul Aziz Malik, resident of Budgam, for using a forged 10+2 certificate to get appointed as a Constable in the 9th Battalion of Indian Reserve Police (IRP).

The case was heard by the Hon’ble Court of Special Mobile Magistrate, 13th Finance Commission/Railway Magistrate, Srinagar.

How the fraud was detected
During investigation, the certificate submitted by the accused was seized and sent to the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) for verification. JKBOSE confirmed that the certificate was forged.

Based on the evidence, the court convicted Malik under Section 420 RPC for cheating and sentenced him to 3 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000. In case of default in payment of fine, he will have to undergo 15 days of simple imprisonment.

The court also sentenced him to 2 years simple imprisonment under Section 471 RPC for using a forged document as genuine. Both sentences will run concurrently.

EOW Issues Warning
The EOW Kashmir has cautioned citizens against using forged or fabricated documents for employment or any official purpose.

“Such fraudulent acts are punishable under law and can lead to imprisonment, fines, and permanent damage to one’s reputation and career,” an EOW spokesperson said.

The conviction comes as part of the EOW’s ongoing crackdown on recruitment frauds and document forgery cases in the Valley, reads the statement. (GNS)
