April 26: Under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, Police arrested a drug peddler in Awantipora and recovered contraband substance from his possession.
A police party of Police Station Khrew during naka checking at Sharshalli intercepted a suspicious person. During search, 906 grams of Bhang Choora was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Ashiq Hussain Bhat son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat resident of Sharshalli was apprehended. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Accordingly, case under relevant sections of law has been registered at police station and further investigation has been initiated.
Police remains committed to its zero-tolerance policy against drug menace and continues to take strict action against individuals involved in drug peddling. The general public is once again urged to cooperate with the police in eradicating the drug menace from society.
