Srinagar, Oct 27: Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession in Awantipora.
According to a statement, police spokesman said that officers at a checkpoint near Dahwatoo Crossing Awantipora intercepted one person identified as Mohammad Rafiq Mir of Wakherwan Awantipora.
“During checking, the officers were able to recover 9 Kgs of Poppy straw from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Awantipora where he remains in custody,” police said.
Accordingly, police said a case under FIR number 155/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Awantipora and investigation has been initiated.
Meanwhile, police said that the community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighborhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, police said
