Srinagar, May 17: Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam Farooqi, on Sunday evening announced that Eid-ul-Adha will be celebrated across Jammu and Kashmir on May 27, 2026.

According to an official communication issued from the office of the Grand Mufti, the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah 1447 Hijri will begin on May 18, 2026 (Monday), as the crescent moon was sighted on the evening of May 17. Consequently, Eid-ul-Adha will fall on May 27, 2026 (Wednesday).

The Grand Mufti further said that the announcement was made after due consultation with Mirwaiz Kashmir Dr. Maulvi Umar Farooq, and other prominent scholars from various schools of thought across Jammu and Kashmir to ensure clarity and avoid confusion among the public regarding the observance of the holy festival.

He appealed to people to maintain communal harmony and celebrate the occasion with religious spirit and brotherhood.
