Srinagar, July 31(GNS): The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of Crime Branch J&K has filed a chargesheet in a cheating case involving a fake cooking oil company.

In a handout to GNS, the CBK said that the chargesheet in FIR No. 77/2022 has been filed before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Srinagar under Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC against four accused persons.

The accused have been identified as Mohd Amin Bhat, son of Mohd Afzal Bhat, resident of Khanyar, Srinagar; Khalid Hussain Khan, son of Ghulam Hassan Khan, resident of Gasiyar Hawal, Srinagar; Anil Kumar Maheshwari, son of Ganpat Lal, resident of Jhotwara, Jaipur, Rajasthan; and Shashank Kumar, son of Surinder Singh, resident of Modipuram, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.

According to the Crime Branch, the case was registered on a complaint alleging that Mohammad Amin Bhat, along with Khalid Hussain Khan, Area Sales Manager, and Anil Kumar Maheshwari, Regional Sales Manager of M/s Assured Agro Food Industries, induced the complainant to deposit Rs. 15 lakh as security for the supply of cooking oil.

The accused allegedly claimed that the company was a manufacturer of cooking oil and promised to deliver the stock within a week. However, no supply was made.

During investigation, it was established that the accused, acting in conspiracy, cheated the complainant on the pretext of supplying mustard oil. Enquiries with the Registrar of Companies, Rajasthan revealed that no company by the name of M/s Assured Agro Food Industries was registered. The investigation also revealed the involvement of Shashank Kumar of Meerut, who was shown as the purported owner of the company.

After completion of the probe, the chargesheet has been presented before the competent court for judicial proceedings.

The Crime Branch has advised the public to remain vigilant against such economic frauds. People have been asked to report any suspicious activities to the SSP, EOW Kashmir. Victims can also lodge complaints through email at sspeow-kmr@jkpolice.gov.in, reads the statement.(GNS)
