Anantnag, July 13: In a significant breakthrough, Anantnag Police has arrested an alleged notorious fraudster in connection with a high-profile gold coin scam involving the alleged cheating of a Srinagar resident of ₹12 lakh by luring him with the promise of discounted gold coins.
According to police, the accused has been identified as Sajad Ahmad Beigh, son of Lassa Beigh, a resident of Draway, Larnoo. He was arrested in connection with FIR No. 27/2026 registered at Police Station Larnoo under Sections 318(4), 351(2) and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police said the case was registered after a complainant from Srinagar alleged that the accused, along with his associates, induced him to pay ₹12 lakh by falsely promising to supply gold coins at highly discounted prices. During the planned transaction, the complainant was allegedly intercepted at a naka, where the purported gold coins were taken away as part of the conspiracy, leaving him defrauded.
During the course of investigation, police collected substantial oral and technical evidence linking the accused and his associates to the alleged fraud. Investigators also successfully challenged the anticipatory bail granted to the accused before the competent court, which subsequently cancelled the relief, paving the way for his arrest.
Police said further investigation is in progress to trace and arrest the remaining absconding accused and to unravel the entire criminal conspiracy behind the alleged scam.
Anantnag Police has urged members of the public to remain vigilant while entering into financial transactions and to avoid falling victim to fraudulent schemes, false promises, or suspicious investment offers. The police also appealed to citizens to immediately report any such incidents to the nearest police station so that timely legal action can be initiated.(KNC)
