Handwara, Jun 29 (GNS): Inhabitants in Audoora village in Mawar Qalamabad are up in arms against Jal Shakti Department (previously Public Health Department) over unavailability of potable water in the area.

“We have been left without potable water for last three days now”, an aggrieved local said adding that despite our several representations to the authorities, ‘we have been deprived of the basic amenity without any of our fault.’

“The unavailability of potable water has forced us to consume water from nallah, which may lead outbreak of any disease”, he said adding that they however are ‘helpless with no one listening’ to them.

The adjacent localities are receiving the supply routinely, however our area has been singled out for no apparent reason, he said.

“Ironically, when we asked the lineman concerned about the reason of unavailability of water supply, he instead misbehaved and abused us”, the locals alleged.

When brought the issue to the notice of Executive Engineer PHE, Zubair Ahmad, told GNS that the dereliction of duty was unacceptable and that he will personally look into the matter. “If any of our employees has shown any casual approach, such a person would be dealt sternly as per rule”, Ahmad further said.
