September 24: Acting tough against social crimes, J&K Police have arrested five gamblers in Kulgam and recovered/seized stake money, mobile phones, vehicles from their possession.
A police party during naka checking at Nipora noticed five persons allegedly engaged in gambling activities. On seeing the police party, they tried to flee from the spot but were apprehended tactfully. They have been identified as Irshad Ahmad Ganaie son of Ab Rashid Ganaie resident of KP Road, Anantnag, Manzoor Ahmad Bhat son of Gh Hassan Bhat resident of Monghall, Anantnag, Wahid Ahmad Mir son of M Sultan Mir resident of Furrah, Gulzar Ahmad Ahanger son of Ab Gani Ahanger resident of Vessu and Mudassir Ahmad Parry son of Mohd Shafi Parry resident of Nipora, Mirbazar.
During the proceedings, ₹4,020 in cash, six mobile phones, two vehicles and one pack of playing cards were seized. Preliminary questioning further revealed that ₹6,000 had been transferred between three bank accounts in connection with the alleged gambling activity.
Cognizance has been taken and investigation into the matter has been initiated.
J&K Police reiterates its commitment to curb gambling and other unlawful activities and appeals to the public to refrain from such activities and report any such instances to the Police or Dial-112.
