July 19: Continuing its sustained crackdown on illegal mining, Police in Shopian seized six tractors involved in the unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals from different areas of the district.

During routine patrolling a police party from Police Post Berthipora intercepted and seized three tractors involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals without valid royalty documents. In this regard, FIR No. 76/2026 under relevant sections of law have been registered at Police Station Keller and investigation has been set into motion.

In a similar action Police party from Police Station Keller intercepted and seized one tractor engaged in illegal mining activities without mandatory permissions. In this regard FIR No.75/2026 under relevant provisions of law has been registered at Police Station Keller and investigation has been initiated.

In another action Police party from Police Station Imamsahib intercepted and seized two Tractors engaged in illegal mining activities without royalty documents. In this regard FIR No.48/2026 under relevant provisions of law has been registered at Police Station Imamsahib and investigation has been initiated

Police reiterates its firm commitment to protecting the district’s natural resources and ensuring strict legal action against those involved in illegal mining. The general public is urged to cooperate by reporting any such unlawful activities. The identity of informants shall be kept strictly confidential.
