May 06: In continuation of the ongoing 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, J&K Police today carried out a series of focused enforcement actions across Police District Sopore to curb drug trafficking, substance abuse and violations of public health laws.
During inspections of medical shops conducted in coordination with the concerned authorities, one medical store located at Chota Bazar Main Chowk Sopore, operated by Bashir Ahmad Dar S/O Ghulam Rasool Dar R/O Arampora Sopore, was found violating provisions of the Drugs & Cosmetics Act. Acting promptly, the shop was sealed after following due legal procedure. With this action, the total number of medical stores sealed during the ongoing campaign has risen to eight, reflecting sustained and targeted enforcement against unlicensed and non-compliant pharmaceutical practices. As part of parallel enforcement measures, shopkeepers selling cigarettes and tobacco products within prohibited zones around educational institutions were also checked. Violators were penalised under the COTPA Act, and fines were imposed on the spot.
Further, Sopore Police conducted searches at multiple suspected locations as part of the continued drive to dismantle narcotics supply networks and curb drug trafficking activities. Sopore Police reiterated that strict enforcement against drug peddling, illegal sale of medicines and violations facilitating substance abuse will continue with zero tolerance.
Alongside enforcement, Police also emphasised continued focus on awareness, prevention and rehabilitation efforts under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan to build a safer, healthier, and drug-free society.
