REASI, JUNE 21: A major forest fire broke out in the Salal forest area of Reasi district on Sunday, triggering an extensive firefighting operation by the Forest Department and Fire & Emergency Services.
According to officials, the blaze spread rapidly across several forest compartments due to dry vegetation, soaring temperatures, and strong winds, posing a serious threat to the forest ecosystem. Firefighting teams were immediately rushed to the affected area and launched intensive efforts to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to adjoining forest regions.
Officials said the prevailing dry weather conditions and gusty winds have complicated firefighting operations, with personnel working on a war-footing to bring the situation under control. Authorities are continuously monitoring the affected area and deploying all available resources to minimize environmental damage and protect nearby forest zones.
Despite the intensity of the fire, no casualties or damage to nearby habitations have been reported so far. Officials stated that efforts are focused on preventing the blaze from reaching populated areas and further forest stretches.
The incident has once again highlighted the growing threat of forest fires during the summer season in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in areas experiencing prolonged dry spells and high temperatures.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid activities that could trigger forest fires.
Meanwhile, firefighting operations continued late into the day as teams battled the flames and assessed the extent of damage caused to the forest area.(KNC)
