Doda, July 17 (GNS): One person was killed and three security personnel were injured in a firing incident in Jai Valley area of Bhaderwah, officials said on Friday.
Officials told GNS that an SOG team had laid an ambush along the Jaie-Gandoh road, about 35 km from Bhaderwah town, following inputs about suspicious movement in the high-altitude area.
During the operation, a scuffle broke out between SOG personnel and a civilian identified as Aarif Hussain, 30, of Cheeka village. In the ensuing melee, an SOG jawan opened fire, resulting in injuries to Hussain. He later succumbed to his injuries.
Three security personnel also sustained injuries in the incident. They have been identified as Rajan Kumar of SOG, Vishal Katoch, SPO, and Daljeet, SPO. All the injured have been shifted to GMC Hospital, Jammu for treatment. One person has been detained for questioning.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.(GNS)
