Poonch, Feb 25: Army troops on Wednesday uncovered a hideout in a forward village of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district and recovered a cache of arms and explosives, officials said.
The recovery was made during a cordon and search operation in Salani Kasblari village in the Mendhar sector. Security personnel found the arms concealed inside a cave during the operation.
According to officials, the seized material included two ready-to-use Improvised Explosive Devices, two grenades, a pistol and 24 rounds of pistol ammunition. One of the IEDs weighed approximately 4.5 kilograms, while the second was smaller in size.
Bomb disposal teams later destroyed the explosive devices and grenades through a controlled explosion. No damage to property or injuries were reported during the disposal process.
Officials said the timely recovery of the consignment is believed to have averted a possible militant strike in the border district.[KNT]
