Night travel Discouraged, Cut-Off Timings Announced For LMVs and HMVs
Srinagar, July 24 (GNS): The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed for 24 hours from July 23, 1600 hrs to July 24, 1600 hrs due to landslides, shooting stones and incessant rainfall at multiple locations.
Traffic Police Headquarters said the highway was blocked for three days due to continuous rain-triggered slides. After clearance work late Thursday afternoon, partial traffic movement was restored from both sides and only local and stranded vehicles were cleared.
Subject to fair weather and road conditions, SANJY convoy, LMVs, passenger and private cars will be allowed from both sides on NH-44 — from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa. HMVs and load carriers will be permitted on alternate days only. TCU Jammu and Srinagar will coordinate with TCU Ramban before releasing traffic.
Nagrota Jammu towards Srinagar: 0700 hrs to 1200 hrs
Jakheni Udhampur towards Srinagar: 0800 hrs to 1300 hrs
Qazigund towards Jammu: 1130 hrs to 1730 hrs
No vehicle will be allowed before or after the cut-off timings.
HMVs will be allowed from Jakheni Udhampur towards Srinagar subject to weather and road conditions. No HMV movement will be permitted after 1900 hrs. TCU Udhampur will liaise with TCU Ramban before release.
In view of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026, the UT administration has decided that all empty tankers of petrol diesel LPG bulk gas, trucks carrying empty LPG cylinders and all empty FCI vehicles will use only Mughal Road while returning to Jammu. Vehicles up to 10 tyres carrying perishable commodities will also use Mughal Road on days when the up convoy for HMVs is scheduled on NH-44.
After cut-off timings, inter-district movement of local commuters will be facilitated up to 2330 hrs at Nagrota and Qazigund on production of valid photo identity cards.
Commuters in private vehicles travelling towards Srinagar are advised to use the old road via Jawahar Tunnel to avoid screening at Lamber Banihal.
Those heading to Batote Doda Bhaderwah and Kishtwar from Jammu are advised to use the old road via Patnitop to avoid screening at Nashri.
Passengers and LMV operators are advised to travel during daytime only. Night travel should be avoided due to risk of shooting stones landslides ongoing construction between Ramban-Banihal and Yatra traffic.
Goods carriers with fresh perishable and livestock should load as per advisories. Fruit growers and load carriers from Valley towards Jammu should park vehicles before 9:00 am at designated places between NAVYUG Tunnel and Levdoora on days of down convoy.
HMV operators are urged to avoid overloading, carry sufficient fuel and ensure vehicle fitness. Commuters should avoid halting between Ramban and Banihal especially near slide-prone areas.
Army and other security forces have been advised to plan movement after SANJY convoys, maintaining safe distance and without affecting civilian traffic released from Nagrota at 6 AM and from Qazigund at 11:30 AM.
Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag NH-244: LMVs passenger and private cars allowed from both sides between 0800 hrs to 1600 hrs from PP Parana towards Anantnag and 0900 hrs to 1600 hrs from Daksum towards Kishtwar subject to weather and road clearance.
SSG Road: LMVs allowed from both sides up to 1300 hrs. HMVs allowed from Minamarg towards Srinagar between 1200 hrs and 1700 hrs. Motorists advised to carry anti-skid chains.
Mughal Road NH-701A: LMVs followed by HMVs up to 10 tyres allowed from both sides between 0700 hrs and 1800 hrs — from Chandimarh Baffliaz towards Shopian and from Herpora Shopian towards Poonch.
Traffic Police has asked commuters to follow advisories issued from time to time and cooperate for smooth movement during the Yatra period. (GNS)
