SRINAGAR: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast intermittent rainfall and thundershowers across Jammu and Kashmir over the coming days, with the possibility of heavy rain and brief intense showers at several places. The weather department has also issued an advisory warning of flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas.
According to the MeT Centre, significant rainfall was recorded during the past 24 hours, with Kathua receiving 81 mm, Udhampur 66.6 mm, Katra 51 mm, and Samba 47 mm of rainfall.
For August 5, the department has predicted one or two spells of light to moderate rain or thundershowers at many places, mainly during the afternoon, evening, and early morning hours. Brief intense heavy showers are also expected in a few districts.
From August 6 to 8, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at many places, with brief intense showers expected at isolated locations.
The weather is expected to become more active between August 9 and 11, when most parts of the Union Territory are likely to experience several spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers. Heavy rainfall and brief intense heavy showers are expected in a few districts during this period.
Between August 12 and 15, light rain and thundershowers are likely at many places, with isolated intense showers continuing.
The MeT Centre has advised people to remain cautious as heavy rain and intense showers on August 5 and August 9–11 could trigger flash floods, landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones in vulnerable areas. Residents, particularly those living near rivers, streams, and hilly slopes, have been urged to monitor weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.
