Srinagar, Aug 13(GNS) Jammu and Kashmir Police have issued an advisory against a new scam tactic where fraudsters use automated systems to make thousands of calls to mark active numbers.

According to police, as per GNS, scammers place bulk automated calls and as soon as a person answers with “Hello”, the system registers the number as active. The call is then disconnected, and the number is likely added to target lists for future scam attempts.

Police have advised citizens to stay alert and not engage with such calls.

The advisory asks people to avoid repeated interaction with unknown silent calls.Disconnect immediately if you receive a silent or unknown call.

Block numbers that repeatedly call from unknown sources. Report suspicious numbers through the NCRP “Check & Report” section.

Officials said the warning is part of ongoing efforts to create awareness and prevent people from falling victim to phone-based frauds.(GNS)
