Srinagar, Aug 13: The crescent moon of Rabi-ul-Awwal 1448 AH was not sighted on Thursday, following which the first day of the Islamic month will be observed on August 15, the office of the Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir announced.

Office of the Dar-ul-Mufti, Grand Mufti Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam told Alfaaz – The Words that the crescent was not sighted on Thursday, corresponding to 29 Safar-ul-Muzaffar 1448 AH.

“Accordingly, the first of Rabi-ul-Awwal will fall on Saturday, August 15, 2026”, he said.

The Grand Mufti extended greetings to the Muslim community, particularly the people of Jammu and Kashmir, on the commencement of the Islamic month.

In his message, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam highlighted the religious significance of Rabi-ul-Awwal and urged people to observe the month in accordance with Islamic teachings and to reflect on the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

He also prayed for peace, prosperity and well-being of humanity and sought divine blessings for the people during the sacred month.
