103 fraud cases reported, Rs 6.92 crore recovered, Lok Sabha informed
Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir recorded 103 financial fraud cases involving Rs 193.49 crore during the financial year 2025-26, with Rs 6.92 crore recovered, the Ministry of Finance informed the Lok Sabha on Monday.
According to State/UT-wise data provided by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), J&K reported 467 fraud cases involving Rs 47.55 crore in FY 2023-24, of which Rs 3.23 crore was recovered. The number of reported cases declined to 298 in FY 2024-25, while the amount involved rose to Rs 81.27 crore. Of this, Rs 2.65 crore was recovered, the data, accessed by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), showed. In FY 2025-26, the number of reported fraud cases stood at 103, but the amount involved surged to Rs 193.49 crore, with Rs 6.92 crore recovered.
The Ministry said banks are required to immediately report fraud incidents to concerned law enforcement agencies, including State/UT Police, SFIO, and CBI, depending on the amount involved. It added that there are no defined timelines for recovery due to the complexity of fraud cases and the involvement of multiple agencies, institutions, tribunals, and courts.
The Centre also said that financial fraud complaints reported through the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal or helpline 1930 feed into the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System, which enables coordination between police agencies, banks, and financial intermediaries for tracing money trails and placing lien holdings on defrauded funds.
Ladakh recorded eight fraud cases involving a negligible amount in FY 2025-26, while 18 cases involving Rs 0.07 crore were reported in FY 2023-24 and 13 cases involving Rs 0.03 crore in FY 2024-25—(KNO)
