Poonch/New Delhi, March 25, KNT: Members of the Sikh community along with local residents in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir have participated in a donation drive to support Iran amid the ongoing Middle East conflict, organizers said on Wednesday.

The drive saw contributions in the form of cash, gold and other valuables, reflecting a wider wave of public solidarity emerging from parts of Jammu and Kashmir, including both Poonch and areas of the Kashmir Valley.

The initiative was organised locally, with community members coming together over recent days to mobilise resources intended for humanitarian assistance linked to the conflict.

Organisers said the contributions were voluntary and aimed at extending support to people affected by the crisis. The total value of the collected donations was not immediately disclosed.

“This is a humanitarian effort. People have contributed whatever they could,” a person associated with the drive said, without elaborating further.

In a related development, a group of youth from Matipora area of Pattan in north Kashmir handed over a donation cheque of ₹5 lakh at the Embassy of Iran in New Delhi, officials familiar with the matter said.

The cheque was submitted as part of humanitarian assistance efforts, indicating that contributions from the region are also being routed through formal diplomatic channels.

The developments highlight the role of local communities and youth groups in mobilising support during international crises, particularly through voluntary and community-led initiatives. [KNT]
