Srinagar: Indian National Congress (INC) has pledged to ‘immediately restore the statehood’ to Jammu and Kashmir and ‘amend the Sixth Schedule of Constitution to include tribal areas of Union territory of Ladakh.’
Notably, the Jammu and Kashmir was divested of its statehood simultaneously with the revocation of its special status under Article 370 and 35A, on August 4, 2019.
On the other hand, the Ladakh was bifurcated from Jammu and Kashmir and made a separate Union territory.
Since the development, different parties have come on record to restore the statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, however the parties largely remained silent on extension of sixth schedule to Ladakh, until Congress making it a part of their manifesto now.
