Banihal, Aug 21: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference MLA from Banihal Sajjad Shaheen said several political leaders and workers from the PDP and Congress have joined the National Conference, describing the development as a significant political shift in the Banihal constituency.
Shaheen said the continued entry of workers from other political parties reflected what he termed growing confidence in the National Conference’s leadership and its political approach.
Welcoming the new entrants into the party, he referred to the PDP’s 2014 alliance with the BJP, describing it as a “historic betrayal” of the trust of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
He said the continued movement of political workers towards the National Conference showed, in his view, that people were rejecting what he called “opportunism and politics of convenience” in favour of dignity and public service.
Shaheen urged the new entrants to strengthen the National Conference at the grassroots level and reiterated the party’s commitment to what he described as equitable development of the Banihal-Gool area. [KNT]
