Anantnag, May 24: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Anantnag Police arrested two alleged drug peddlers and recovered 4.475 kilograms of charas-like substance along with ₹50,000 cash during a naka checking operation in the district.
Officials said that acting as part of its ongoing anti-narcotics drive, a police team intercepted an Eon vehicle bearing registration number JK04D-2959 during routine checking. During the search operation, police recovered 4 kilograms and 475 grams of charas-like substance, which had been wrapped in corn husk and smartly concealed inside cavities of both front doors of the vehicle.
Police also recovered ₹50,000 in cash from the possession of the accused, believed to be linked to narcotics trafficking activities.
The accused have been identified as Sajad Ahmad Bhat, son of Gh. Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Dedmeribagh Chadoora in Budgam district, and Abdul Gani Dar, son of Ali Mohammad Dar, a resident of Tulkhan Bijbehara.
A case under FIR No. 138/2026 has been registered under Sections 8/20 and 29 of the NDPS Act at the concerned police station, and further investigation has been initiated to trace both backward and forward links of the narcotics network.
Anantnag Police reiterated its commitment towards eliminating the drug menace from society and appealed to the public to cooperate by sharing information related to drug peddling and other illegal narcotics activities.(KNC)
