Srinagar, June 17,: Srinagar Police apprehended an alleged drug peddler during a naka checking operation at Rambagh Bund and recovered a heroin-like substance from his possession.
Officials said the accused has been identified as Parvez Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Rashid Dar, a resident of Narkara in Budgam district.
During late-night checking conducted by a police party from Police Station Sherghari, the suspect was intercepted and subjected to personal search. Police said approximately 5.83 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession.
Following the recovery, the accused was taken into custody and the contraband seized as evidence.
In this connection, FIR No. 31/2026 under Section 8/21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Police Station Sherghari.
SHO Sherghari, Muhammad Ishaq while confirming the arrest and seizure described drug trafficking as a pernicious threat to society and reiterated resolve to dismantle narcotics networks operating in the Valley.
He said further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the recovered substance and to identify any possible accomplices or wider nexus linked to the case. [KNT]
