Srinagar records 32 C, Jammu 32.5 C , Gulmarg remains coolest at 21.4 C
Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to witness spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places between August 16 and 19, with the Meteorological Centre Srinagar warning of heavy and brief intense showers in some districts that may trigger flash floods, landslides and mudslides.
The weather office, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said from August 16 to 19, several spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at many places, while heavy rain or brief intense heavy showers may occur in a few districts, particularly during the early morning and afternoon hours.
The Meteorological Centre said there is a possibility of heavy rain or brief intense heavy showers in a few districts of the Jammu division during this period, while one or two districts in the Kashmir division may also experience brief intense showers.
It cautioned that torrential rain and brief intense heavy showers could lead to flash floods, landslides, mudslides and waterlogging in low-lying areas.
Between August 20 and 22, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at scattered places, mainly during the early morning and late afternoon hours.
In the past 24 hours, Kulgam recorded the highest significant rainfall of 55.5 mm, followed by Pahalgam at 29.6 mm and Katra at 20.8 mm.
Despite the rainfall, temperatures remained relatively high in several parts of the region. Srinagar recorded a maximum of 32.0 degrees Celsius, which was 2.6 degrees above normal, while the minimum temperature settled at 18.5 degrees Celsius.
Qazigund recorded a maximum of 30.4 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 15.8 degrees Celsius, while Kupwara registered 31.8 degrees Celsius and 17.4 degrees Celsius respectively.
Pahalgam recorded a maximum temperature of 25.6 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 12.6 degrees Celsius. Gulmarg remained cooler, recording 21.4 degrees Celsius as the maximum and 11.6 degrees Celsius as the minimum.
In Jammu, the maximum temperature was 32.5 degrees Celsius and the minimum 23.6 degrees Celsius. Banihal recorded 29.7 degrees Celsius and 17.6 degrees Celsius, while Batote recorded 26.6 degrees Celsius and 19.6 degrees Celsius.
Katra recorded a maximum of 28.6 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 22.8 degrees Celsius, while Bhaderwah recorded 27.8 degrees Celsius and 17.0 degrees Celsius.
Across the wider Jammu region, Muzaffarabad recorded the highest maximum temperature of 37.6 degrees Celsius, followed by Mirpur at 35.0 degrees Celsius.
The weather department has advised people, particularly those living in vulnerable and low-lying areas, to remain cautious during periods of intense rainfall and follow official advisories—(KNO)
