Kupwara, Jan 23 (GNS): Keeping in view the complaints received from public, raising suspicion that mutton was being mixed with beef, a joint team of police and Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCSCA) employees on Saturday arrested a dealer at main-market Kupwara.

SHO Bazar Post Nazir Ahmad, part of the inspecting team, told GNS that they had received specific information about a mutton dealer at Dar Gali in main-market allegedly mixing beef with mutton to dupe gullible customers.

As such a police team assisted by FCSCA employees raided the shop during which the dealer was caught as it was ascertained that pieces of beef were found in mutton.

Identifying the accused as one Hilal Ahmad Ganaie, the official said that he has been arrested on the spot.

“An FIR Number 20/21 under sections 3/7 Essential Commodities Act and 420 IPC has been taken against the erring butcher”, the official added. (GNS)
