Moral and legal analysis of Gafur Ghulam’s story “My Thief Boy”

Annotation: In this article, the story of Gafur Ghulam, who was the son of Mirzaarif, a bright representative of Uzbek literature, academician, writer and poet, “My son of a thief” is analyzed from a moral and legal point of view. Gafur Ghulam is in the article. The importance of our universal values in our society was discussed in his works.

There are many writers and poets who gave their love to literature and poetry in all eras. Among them, Gafur Ghulam, who is an enthusiastic singer of peace, friendship and people’s happiness, occupies an important place. When we learn about the writer’s creative activity, the story “My Thieving Boy” involuntarily attracts one’s attention. Why do you say that in this work, the writer describes the condition of people during the First World War, the fact that the Russian Empire, in order to win the war, transported all the wealth of the population, family who went food and clothes, from the lands considered its colonies, and the men who were considered the breadwinners of the family went to war. He said that mobilization led to the impoverishment of our people, increased unemployment, and increased hunger. The story “My Thief Boy” is not called a true story for nothing. If we look at the writer’s past life, we can see that he lost his parents early. It is no exaggeration to say that the writer wrote about his childhood life, that is why this story is called an autobiographical work.
During the analysis of the work “My Thief Boy”, we can witness that our universal values such as honesty, piety, concern, sympathy, fear, hospitality, tolerance, respect, and goodwill are skillfully incorporated into the content of the story.The story’s essence is revealed by the conversation between the “black grandmother” and the thief, who are the main characters of the play, the old woman in her 80s. The situation described in the story was in those difficult times, that is, the famine during the war years, when there was not even a single piece of bread to eat. When Kara’s grandmother asked the thief why he did not steal into the houses of richer people, he said that it is impossible to break into rich people’s houses, all the places of their yards are strong. From this we can understand that even in those times there were rich and self-sufficient people, and we can see that they only took advantage of the simplicity of the common people. In fact, they themselves are thieves. Instead of helping the people when they are in dire straits, they seek their own interests and dishonestly try to get as much wealth from them as possible, and take bribes under the pretext of not sending them to war. As an example of my opinion, it is possible to cite the bribe of 83 soums from the chieftain Rahmonkhoja not to send the thief to war. According to the legal norms of the current era, it is considered that the chief of fifty has committed corruption, thereby abusing his official duties, and should be held criminally liable.[1]
If we pay attention to the words taken from the speech of the thief, he says that all professions have suffered, even if he said that he is a father, the necessary materials are expensive, and if he is a porter, there are no rich people who get as much as before. The thief also uses the phrase “a chicken needs both grain and water” to support his family. He also said to Roqiyabibi’s thief: “Life is harder than a stone, and bread is like a camel’s eye” (life has become difficult). If there is a living, there is nothing worth looking at or touching. We are buying and eating from one end. They said, “I can’t stand the one who eats while standing.” Times are tough, thief boy, times are tough!” His words are proof of our opinion.[2] Of course, when the old woman asked my son to chop wood and let’s drink tea together, the thief got angry and said that he was ashamed. We can conclude from these cases that the thief did this out of desperation, because the situation at that time forced him to do so. Here are the following lines taken from the famous poetess Zulfiyakhanim’s poem “My son, there will be no war”:“War! May your name be extinguished in the world,
I found it permissible to quote the pain you caused.[3] Because in the First World War, not only our country, Turkestan, but also all the colonies of the Russian Empire suffered a lot. That’s why Gafur Ghulam in this story not only describes the situation of these two helpless people, but they, in their fate, are the people’s situation. – was able to show that they have gathered their spirit. This situation not only increased the content of the story, but also increased its educational and artistic significance.
In conclusion, I can say that the author shows through this story how many difficult times the peoples went through during the war, which caused serious consequences not only to the warring Russian Empire, but also to its colonies, millions of innocent people were killed or maimed. He described the fact that many children became orphans, that is, the life of a whole society at that time. How sincere, simple-minded, hospitable and kind the Uzbek people are embodied in the image of the “black grandmother”. If we look at it from the point of view of law, the story deals with bribery, theft, and abuse of official duties by officials. legal problems such as possession of wealth, invasion, i.e. oppression of the people of Turkestan by the empire, transportation of all wealth is covered. Finding solutions to these problems, which do not lose their relevance today, is the main task of us lawyers.
